How often should my child play tennis?

Tennis is a fantastic sport that offers a wide range of physical and mental benefits for children. From improving coordination and building fitness to developing discipline and sportsmanship, playing tennis can be a great way for your child to stay active an healthy.

So how often should your child play tennis?

Well, the answer can depend on a few factors such as age, skill level and interest.

For children aged 3 - 5 yrs, it is recommended they participate in 45 minute sessions once or twice a week, this includes fun games and activities to introduce them to the basic skills and rules.

For children aged 6 - 11 years, it is recommended they participate in 60 minute sessions, two times per week. This includes more structured training and provides good opportunities to put their training into practice. You may wish to start once a week to gauge your child's interest in the sport, but then you will want to talk to the coach to add in another session.

For children aged 12 - 18 years, they should be taking part in 90 - 120 minute sessions two or three times per week. This includes a mix of Matchplay and technique sessions.

Of course these are just guidelines, and you should always take into account your child's individual needs and preferences. It's important to encourage your child to play tennis because they enjoy it, not because they feel pressured to do so.

How do I go about booking extra sessions?

Firstly, talk to your child's coach. They will know their ability and what would suit them. Here at Tennislessons4u we have three different programs depending on the intensity of training - Social, Pathway and Advantage.

Overall, tennis is a great sport for your children. Remember, the most important thing is they are having fun while they play and stay active and healthy!
